Analysing the second final for Mobile ESPN, Akram said: "The one-day team is getting better day by day under Dhoni. He keeps his calm and takes the right decisions at the right time.
"Dhoni has shown a lot of confidence in his young players and the results are showing. When you go into a match with confidence in the youngsters, they will perform."
The former all rounder was impressed with the team right from the outset of the match. "The way they batted and the kind of start they got impressed me. Sachin Tendulkar once again showed he is the best in the world and he can easily continue for three to four years," he said.
The former swing bowler could not help but marvel at the depth in the team. "India's best bowler Ishant Sharma did not play but the other bowlers chipped in beautifully and India still won."
"I think India have the bench strength to even back up someone like Sachin Tendulkar when he is injured. If you can win a match without your best bowler, that speaks volumes about your bench players," he noted.
Akram said Sreeanth bowled well. He also heaped praises at the way Praveen Kumar swung it around for India. "He got three crucial wickets up front and that changed the momentum India's way. Irfan Pathan showed his character in the way he bowled the last over."
Harbhajan Singh sent ‘good friend’ Andrew Symonds back to the pavilion for the second time on the trot and Akram did not fail to notice the glee in the bowler's eyes. "Harbhajan got his bunny yet again and he was ecstatic. It was wonderful to see his celebrations."
The cricket legend said India's fielding was electrifying in the last 20 overs and that made a huge contribution to the win.
